Breathing Line – gifts for the future premieres at Sneinton Market Nottingham 9 September 2017
Performance 11.30am stall/installation till 2pm
Breathing Line is a new public art work by Rosanna Irvine – a kinetic human sculpture that leaves behind a trail of gold
In an oddly meditative and quietly rhythmic group action, performers process through Sneinton Market leaving behind their trail of gold – £1000 in gold coins. The trail leads to the Breathing Line market stall.
At the market stall the public are invited to unmake the work – to take away a gift of 10 gold coins. In return they are asked to undertake a positive action that costs nothing. The market stall is a space for discussion around what kind of action might be ‘positive.’ It invites reflections around our transactions in the world, the value we place on time and the economy of the gift.

A free workshop will be held at Dance4’s IC4C (International Centre for Choreography) Nottingham on 25 July 2017 2-5pm
For artists/performers/makers and for people who are interested in socially engaged practices and work in public spaces. The workshop experientially investigates simple action-based performance scores that call on a simultaneous attention in individual and collective awareness. We begin with a focus on our own breath – and from there investigate ways of walking as both an individual and as part of a group. It’s also a space to discuss together systems of exchange and to reflect on our experiences of giving and receiving that are not based simply on the transaction. Info and to book here
